As a PhD researcher I applied modern coding techniques to the information reconciliation step in quantum key distribution. For fixed error rates, these ideas lead to a significant improvement of the distillable secret key with respect to earlier interactive reconciliation methods.

I participated in two projects, both related with DVB-RCS, the Harmonisation of DVB-RCS Management and Control Planes granted by the European Space Agency (ESA) and an study of the Interoperability of DVB-RCS and terrestrial access technologies for the Spanish Ministry of Industry.

As part of a Engineers Without Borders Spain program I went one month to the NGO BorgouNET in Benin. They provide communications infrastructures to development agents. My technical task was to customize of an open source prepaid card access system for wireless clients (freeRadius, ChilliSpot, phpMyPrepaid)
